The Colour me Kate Podcast - who are you, really?
Having recently been diagnosed with a Functioning Disorder (which led to the temporary shut down of my business for three months), I've become even more fascinated by the 'real' person behind the 'socially masked' person.
A Functioning Disorder is an umbrella term for a group of symptoms in the body that stem from the emotional processing in our brains. In other words, if you screw the lid too tightly on all the feelings for too many decades, the body breaks out in complaint.
My diagnosis, subsequent research and therapy has piqued my interest in digging down into the core of who other people really are. Because my theory is that understanding others helps us to understand ourselves.
Helloo! I'm Kate Bird, a Personal Colour & Stylist at Colour me Kate, located in the Perth Hills of Western Australia. And for more than a decade I've helped women to feel good about how they look on the outside - and now I'm having a good old dig around to discover who they are on the inside.

Maya Polanski (41) was given a shock breast cancer diagnosis last year but coped by self-distraction, taking control and always having fun with her personal style.
Straight after recording this episode, I picked up the phone and booked myself a mammogram. When was the last time you had yours?
Imagine yourself as a fit and healthy young woman in your prime - in fact you've just celebrated your fortieth birthday.
You're a successful engineer, working on a mine site in a remote part of Western Australia for much for the year.
And then you feel a lump.
This is what happened just last year to my colour client, Maya Polanski.
At the age of just forty, Maya discovered that she had breast cancer and her life went from the controlled environment of a mine site laboratory, to putting her body and future in the hands of surgeons and oncologists.
During the scary following months of treatment, Maya found ways to distract her mind and regain some control on her life.
Throughout it all though, Maya found that distracting herself and taking control of her spiraling life was never at the expense of her creativity and her unusual sense of personal style.
This is Maya's story.
